The College
of Chemistry and Life Sciences of Qinghai Nationalities University
was set up based on the previous Department of Chemistry. The college
consists of three departments and two research centers including
the department of chemistry, the pharmacological department, the
department of biochemistry engineering, the chemical research center
for Qinghai resources and the research center for traditional Chinese
medicine and Tibetan medicine of Qinghai. The college has two key
laboratories, which are the key laboratory for biochemistry engineering
of Qinghai and the integrated laboratory for the study of traditional
Chinese medicine and Tibetan medicine of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau established
by the central and local governments.
The Department
of Chemistry was set up in 1960 and was authorized, by the Qinghai
provincial government, to be the provincial key discipline in 1997.
It was authorized in 2000 and 2005, by the State Council, to confer
master¡¯s degree in physical chemistry and in pharmacological analysis
respectively.
We have
good experimental conditions. The labs cover an area of 4,845m2
with a total asset of over 5,000,000 yuan. The college has a teaching
staff and academic faculty of excellent quality performing well
in teaching and scientific research. Over the past two years, the
college has undertaken two scientific research projects at state
level and two key research projects of the provincial department
of science and technology. Three theses have been taken by the SCI
as well as hundreds of theses taken by the open journals home and
abroad.
At present
the college of chemistry and life sciences has a full-time faculty
of 34, of whom there are 7 professors, 17 associate professors,
6 lecturers and 4 assistants. One professor enjoys the subsidy of
the State Council. The number of the students including the four-year
undergraduates, three-year undergraduates and postgraduates is over
600. It has a 4,845-square-meter center for chemical experiment
with 32 labs equipped with about 300 apparatuses for teaching and
scientific research. The college has already formed a set of multi-level
teaching system for higher education of undergraduates and postgraduates.
Specialities:
1. Education of chemistry: to train professional technical talents
who have a good knowledge of chemistry, perform well in chemical
experiments, operate computer, master a scientific theory and method
of teaching and conduct the teaching of chemistry and relevant jobs.
2. Pharmacology: to train professional talents who have a good knowledge
of pharmacology and do experiments skillfully. They should be able
to work on the production, inspection, marketing and usage of drugs.
Meanwhile, they can be involved in the field of medicine development
learning about the appraisal, design and clinical usage of drugs.
3. Applied chemistry: to train professional technical talents who
have a comprehensive command of chemistry and method of doing experiments
and operate computer well. They can be engaged in the applied studies,
analysis and inspection and teaching.
4. Biochemistry engineering: to train professional talents who have
a good knowledge of biochemistry engineering and the manufacture
of meticulous chemical products. They can work on manufacturing
techniques, products development and marketing.
5. MA in physical chemistry: 4 research directions in stoichiometry,
electrochemistry, applied quantum chemistry and applied chemical
physics.
6. MA in pharmacological analysis: 3 research directions in pharmacological
analysis, chromatograph fingerprint atlas analysis on Chinese traditional
medicine and calculable chemistry of Chinese traditional medicine.
Characteristics:
In terms of chemistry, the relevant disciplines,
pharmacy, biochemistry engineering, material and environmental engineering
have been the focal points of studies. The education of undergraduates
plays an essential role in the school running while the education
of postgraduates has been progressing. The adult education and the
vocational education have also been developed properly. It is crucial
to highlight teaching and to conduct scientific research in the
meantime. The college has trained and brought out students with
strong ability to work on their own. The excellent talents work
as teachers, technicians and researchers in Qinghai and west China.
Meanwhile, the college has provided scientific research for the
society.
