Foreign Languages Literature Department derives from the unification of the English Department of Qinghai Advanced Junior Teachers School and the Foreign Language Teaching Department of Qing hai Nationalities University.It has nearly thirty years of experience to cultivate teachers of English for middle schools.It began the undergraduate enrollment of English Major in September 2002,the undergraduate enrollment of Japanese Major in September 2006.There are 481 students in the department.Now in the department there are more than sixty teachers,among whom there are 2 full professors,25 associate professors,23 lecturers and 10 assistants.More than 20 teachers have got the Master Degrees or the certificates corresponding to postgraduate level.Some teachers have been to other countries to further study English.Five foreign teachers are employed to teach some English courses in the department.This department has set up 8 teaching research sections,1 applied linguistics research center,1 College English language lab and 1 foreign language training center.The establishment of majors covers English,Japanese and Arabic,all of which are undergraduate,and English education,which is three-year learning.This department has a library with 15,000 books.
     Foreign Languages Department focuses on the teaching research,sticking to the principle that “Teaching is the basis of the department;scientific research boosts its development.”Till now it has achieved good result in teaching and scientific research,winning good reputation in society.Over the past years our teachers have published over 240 articles in the provincial journals and education and teaching magazines concerned,even books have been published by some teachers.Some teachers have won the awards in school-level or provincial teaching competition.Qinghai Nationalities University has been appointed one of the 180 universities by the State Education Department in the implementation of College English reform,and because of which it is also appointed as one of the 60 model universities.This department establishes the provincial key course,college-level key course and the College English language lab in which students can complete independent learning of English.
     In order to meet the development of the university and the need of the talents in foreign languages application,with the university leaders, direction and the care and support of other departments,Foreign Languages Department is broadening majors and learning directions.Now all of the leaders and teachers in the department are endeavoring to set up their own teaching characteristic to improve teaching quality and level.
