   On the basis of meeting the needs of skilled workers in ethnic arts,the Department of Arts in Qinghai Nationalities University was founded in 2001.In addition to Qinghai,it has enlarged its enllment in Shandong,Hunan and Hubei since 2003.
   The Department of Arts offers two specialities.One is Art Department signing,which is composed of three aspects,ethnic arts and crafts,modern arts and crafts as well as advertising designing;the other is music,including ethnic vocal music and ethnic dance.A MA degree on the arts of Chinese national minorities is located in the department.
   The Department has a teaching staff of 16,including 2 professors,6 associate professors and 6 lecturers(2 have graduate qualifications).Besides,there are 7 teachers who are engaged,including professor and 6 associate professors.Its 280 students include not only undergraduates and 2 postgraduates but also students of 3-year programs.There are four teaching offices of Tibetan Images,foundation of fine art,art designing and singing & dancing.The department also has 3 laboratories,including The lab of Tibetan images,the Lab of graphs designing and the Lab of art designing.In addition,there are 20 rooms for music practicing,10 pianos and 1 flower room,1 music room.The department’s library has a collection of over 1,567 volumns.
   In recent years,achievements in the department have been greatly significant.Teachers have published 58 articles,4 monographs and 58 pieces of work.Among them,20 pieces of work have been won prizes in nation and province.There are total 43 performance and enhibition,in which 10 were awarded.The department is working on a national research subject and a provincial research subject.It has won three prizes in University on teaching achievements.The department also complied the textbook”The Teaching Course of Tibetan Images”.Furthermore,it has set up 3 teaching and research bases at Regong Arts lluseum.Qinghai Arts and Crafts Factory and Qinghai Sculpture Factory.An Ethnic Arts Research Institute has been founded.Now,The department has extensive academic exchanges with other provinces.
